Organisation ~ The School Day

Our school is organised into 5 classes, most with children from two different year groups.

Cherry Class – Reception

Apple Class – Years 1 and 2

Chestnut Class – Years 2 and 3

Oak Class – Years 4 and 5

London Plane Class – Years 5 and 6

This arrangement means that we offer a smaller class of 20 children in Reception. Very careful consideration is given to create the right balance in the number of children and the mix of abilities in each class. When deciding which class Year 2 and 5 children will be based in we take a number of factors into consideration: age, current stage of learning, emotional maturity and the friendships of the children involved.  As a small school we know our children very well and we are able to manage our classes most successfully.  Children’s classes are determined towards the end of the summer term.

We are committed to providing the maximum amount of adult support that we can afford from our school budget. One or more learning support assistants are attached to each class for the greater part of each day and additional learning support assistants work with specific children to provide support outside of the class.

The School Day

School begins at 9.00 am and finishes at 3.15 pm. Being at school in time to start the day is really important. We ask children not to arrive before 8.45 am, unless they are taking part in an extra curricular activity. We have a large number of enrichment activities before, during and after the school day.  These include: music lessons, football, netball, athletics, Forest Schools, art and film club.  These activities vary on a termly basis to provide variety, challenge and choice to children.
